Customer Reviews

Don't care what others say about this product, I love this iron!5
I used to have been in the Marines until 2007, I had this iron for a good 3 years now and it continues to do its job. I bought this on base down in North Carolina for less than $20. It's cheap, it's simple, and very dependable. This is a recommend compared to all those other expensive ones w/ other functions. The only disapointment for me about this item is if they discontinue these.

Great value for the casual ironer4
I iron strictly on an as-needed basis (more during the summer), at the last-minute, and usually on a towel on the bed. I am a student and don't want to invest in a serious iron until I "settle." I saw positive reviews for this iron on both Amazon and the Kmart website and bought it at a Kmart store. So far, it works great for my needs. It's fairly light-weight, but it's definitely clearing the wrinkles. Both the steam and spray functions work well. I agree, the dial underneath the handle is rather awkward. An auto shut-off function would be nice, but I guess I'd have to pay more than $10 for that! Instead, it has a red indicator light so you know if the iron is still plugged in. I am happy with this iron.

Does the job well4
My previous Proctor Silex iron (can't remember which model) nearly electrocuted me a couple weeks ago when sparks flew out of it, so I needed to get a new iron...and this is what I ended up choosing. I didn't buy it through Amazon, but at a local Kmart on sale, for several dollars less than what you see here.

This Traditions iron is small and lightweight. Just right for me--also small and lightweight! Nothing fancy, either. To my mind, the more hi-techy things available on the iron, the more that things can go wrong. I am not a clothes person--I don't need a million features to do the mind-numbing job of ironing.

It has a smooth glide. In the beginning, it will smell like it's smoking, but according to the manufacturer's instruction booklet, this is normal, and will disappear after several uses. I've only used it 2x so far. The first time the smell was pretty strong, but the next time it wasn't so bad.

Two gripes: it doesn't stand upright too well--sometimes I have to adjust the wire so it will sit flat on the ironing board...I feel like i have to stand guard nearby so it won't fry my ironing board cover, or drop to the floor (which may be a good thing for a someone like myself who has a history of dropping steam irons!). The second thing is that the dial is a bit hard to read with its small print. But this is quite minor. Overall, this iron does a pretty good job.

If you ever read any Consumer Reports studies on steam irons, they'll tell you that ALL steam irons break down after a several years anyway, whether you paid $200+ or $20 or less. So why pay so much for a commodity that has a limited life span, regardless of price?

A nice little iron4
When my 29-year old iron (a G.E. purchased with green stamps) finally rusted out, I had to get a new iron fast. This Proctor Silex Easy Press is reasonably priced and fairly simple to use. I especially like the steam control feature. I haven't experienced any leaking (that another reviewer complained of) and the retractable cord is a nice bonus. Altogether, I'm quite pleased with this product.

No complaints5
Cheap, lite-weight, heats up quick, slides easily, stores its own cord. What's not to like?

So far so good5
I just bought this iron on the recommendation of the previous review and have to agree. My only mini-criticism is that the retractable cord compartment is at the bottom of the iron (naturally) and it makes the iron a bit bulkier than one without this feature. In spite of that, I found it perfectly fine. Everything worked as it should.
It even uses plain old tap water.

Happy Ironing5
The Proctor Silex 17410 Iron is indeed very lightweight, heats up quickly, gives off grundels of steam. It could use an easier to read control dial, but that isn't a major issue. I especially like the pivoting cord feature. I'd say that for the price it is an excellent value.

Great product5
Lightweight, easy to use. I'm very satisfied with this iron. And the price is very reasonable.
